VPI - We are Power Solvers
Paving the way in an evolving landscape, bridging the gap between the now and the next.
We are energy people, traders and engineers. With a new and dynamic approach to tackling the energy crisis, VPI is playing a vital role in the transition to net zero.
Our expertise makes us pioneers, optimising our existing energy solutions while being at the forefront of new and emerging technologies.
Our Solutions
With our portfolio of thermal power generation, battery storage, and carbon capture projects, we’re delivering decarbonised, dispatchable, and flexible power generation in seven sites across the UK and Ireland.
All while driving the uptake of renewables by supporting their route to market.
A part of the Vitol Group since 2013 we’re at the forefront of the global energy market, and a leading agent in the energy transition. Vitol has been moving energy around the world since 1966. Our combined expertise in generating and trading power, positions us as key players in the evolution toward a new energy reality.
Our Mission
VPI is constantly scanning the energy landscape for challenges and opportunities. Anticipating problems as the energy transition unfolds, while investing in solutions. As more renewables enter the system, and demand for energy rises, we’ll need to ensure grid stability. That’s why VPI are leading suppliers of reliable and flexible power solutions that build resilience.
But the global imperative to reach net zero means we still need to remove carbon from existing power sources. So VPI is pioneering one of the largest carbon capture projects in the world with Humber Zero. All while investing in new, cleaner technologies for the future.
VPI is growing and investing so that we have the power we need, this day and the next.
CEO Statement
As a leading power company in the UK and Ireland, VPI is constantly scanning the energy landscape for challenges and opportunities.
We see it as our role to invest in solutions.
As the use of renewable energy increases we’ll see more intermittency driven by the weather. And we’ll need short term solutions to maintain grid operability, like synchronous compensators and batteries. That’s why VPI is now the largest operator of batteries in Ireland and we’re continuing to expand.
We’re also experiencing longer periods where the weather doesn’t provide all the power we need to go about our daily lives. In the future, other technologies could become available to provide reliable low-carbon power. But right now the most economical way of ensuring reliable power at scale is gas fired generation. And across the UK and Ireland VPI has 3.5GW of thermal capacity.
But the global imperative to reach net zero means we can’t sit back and wait for new clean technologies to become economically and technically viable. We need to find ways to remove carbon from existing power sources. That’s why we’re pioneering one of the largest retrofit power carbon capture projects in the world at our Humber Zero Project.
All while driving the uptake of renewables by supporting their route to market.
At VPI we’re in an exciting stage of growth.
We’re investing heavily to ensure we have the power we need to live our lives today and tomorrow.
